Sylvie has an art/ design and education background. During the 80’s and 90’s she worked as a knitwear designer, which included writing knitting patterns for popular magazines and some freelance costume designs for the BBC. She collaborated on two books with Dawn French, actress and comedian. (Big Knits, Great Big Knits, Ebury Press). She also designed rugs, selling designs through The Contemporary Textile Gallery, Soho, London.

After moving to Scotland in 2014, Sylvie began attending RBGE classes at in botanical illustration, quickly becoming hooked. Studying seaweeds for her diploma proved to be a totally engrossing subject, reinforcing her love of the sea having grown up on the Solent ‘messing about in boats’. The fascinating relationship between science and art fuels her work.
